Chapter 3 - Basic Input and Output

Arithmetic and string processing usually result from users providing that data to the page and making it accessible to scripts. After the data are manipulated by scripts, results are returned to the user for visual inspection. A need, then, is to provide ways through which data are input into scripts and through which output results are displayed.
